Certification Categories:

Candidates for this exam can be certified in any of three equipment categories plus Universal:

  • Core — General knowledge required to pass before any type certification can be awarded
  • Type 1 — Small appliances such as PTACs and window A/C units
  • Type 2 — High-pressure refrigerant equipment such as residential A/C and heat pumps
  • Type 3 — Low-pressure refrigerant equipment such as chillers
  • Universal — Awarded to candidates who pass all three Types plus Core

Who Should Attend: Any HVAC technician who handles refrigerants and needs to become certified — or anyone looking to upgrade their current certification level. This is one of the most essential credentials in the trade.
